Description
This course will take a focused practical approach to the recognition of life-threatening conditions and their stabilisation in first opinion practice, covering the initial assessment, diagnosis, and stabilisation of common emergency presentations using the facilities typically available.
With comprehensive online pre-learning videos provided in advance, delegates will be able to familiarise themselves with the theory they are expected to know ahead of the course. The day will then be spent largely in practical sessions covering emergency diagnostics and procedures.
Practical sessions on Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) will demonstrate its value in triaging emergency patients and diagnosing various conditions. These sessions will also cover additional emergency procedures, allowing you to gain hands-on experience with these life-saving techniques.
Topics to be covered include:
- Respiratory support techniques - nasal cannulas, thoracocentesis, chest tube placement (trochar and low-profile)
- Techniques for assisted nutrition - naso-oesophageal tubes, oesophagostomy tube placement
- Emergency fluid therapy – protocols, venous access, central venous catheters and intraosseous techniques
- Point-of-Care Ultrasound - abdominal and thoracic (including basic echocardiogram views)Â
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation - including neonatal resuscitation following C section
