Description
Ocular pain is a common presenting complaint in first-opinion practice and can arise from a wide range of ophthalmic emergencies and chronic conditions. This one-day course is designed to help you confidently assess, diagnose and manage painful eye conditions encountered in everyday practice
We will begin by exploring how to get the most from the ophthalmic examination and cover investigation and management of common and important causes of ocular pain. The day will also include discussion of painful eyelid disorders such as entropion, together with an overview of enucleation surgery. Through a combination of clinical cases, practical guidance and evidence-based recommendations, you will gain confidence in recognising ophthalmic emergencies, initiating appropriate treatment, and knowing when to refer.
Topics to be covered include:
- The ophthalmic examination: techniques, diagnostic tests and recognising key signs
- Disorders of the globe: corneal ulceration, uveitis, glaucoma, lens luxation
- Disorders around the globe: proptosis, retrobulbar disease and entropian
- Enucleation: indications, surgical techniques and post operative care.
- Recognition of emergencies and indications for referral
