Description
This practical course will help build your confidence in approaching wounds and reconstructions frequently encountered in small animal practice. Â
We’ll begin by looking at surgical reconstruction techniques commonly used in traumatic wound reconstruction, as well as surgical oncology. We'll discuss how we manage an open wound to prepare it to be closed and the techniques we can use to close these wounds. We'll then apply these techniques to managing large skin defects resulting from common skin tumours.Â
Since masses or wounds in areas with limited skin availability can be particularly challenging, we’ll also cover reconstruction techniques for difficult locations.
Topics to be covered include:
- Wound management principals
- Reconstruction of traumatic wound or following oncological reconstruction
- Oncological diseases: Mast cell tumours, injection site sarcomas and soft tissue sarcomas
- Reconstruction techniques:
- Subdermal advancement flaps
- Axial pattern flaps
- Skin grafts
