Description
Ophthalmic conditions affecting the eyelids and cornea are frequently encountered in veterinary practice and often require surgical management to achieve the best outcome for patients. This highly practical course is designed to help you build confidence in diagnosing and treating these conditions using a range of commonly performed surgical techniques.
Through a combination of focused teaching and wet-lab practical sessions, you will review the anatomy and physiology of the eyelids, cornea and third eyelid, alongside the underlying causes of common conformational and disease-related conditions. You will then practise a variety of ophthalmic surgical procedures under supervision, developing the technical skills required to perform these techniques safely and effectively in practice.
The course also covers approaches to corneal repair and reconstruction, including suturing and graft techniques, alongside procedures used to treat common corneal pathology.
Topics to be covered
- Congenital and conformational eyelid disorders
- Surgical correction of entropion and ectropion
- Management and resection of eyelid tumours
- Corneal wound healing and principles of corneal surgery
- Corneal procedures including superficial keratectomy and grid keratotomy
- Techniques for corneal repair and reconstruction, including conjunctival grafts
- Removal of corneal foreign bodies and management of corneal defects
