The advantages and disadvantages of minimally invasive procedures are discussed and there is a brief overview of instrumentation and instrument handling techniques, followed by a more detailed discussion of laparoscopic principles, the approach to the abdomen and laparoscopic organ biopsies.

The use of electrosurgery and other haemostatic techniques in minimally invasive surgery is also covered, followed by detailed instruction on laparoscopic ovariectomy and ovariohysterectomy.
