Vicky Hawkins

After qualifying as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 2012 from Birmingham City University, I worked in the field of human medicine at Nottingham University Hospitals for just over two years before taking on the role of Veterinary Radiographer at the Queens Veterinary School Hospital at the University of Cambridge, in 2014. In 2016, I was promoted to Head Radiographer and now manage a small team of qualified radiographers and vet nurses.  This role involves plain film radiography of small and large animals including equine, farm and exotics and the specialist areas of MRI, CT and fluoroscopy. I am also the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the department. Aside from the practical element of radiography, teaching is a huge part of my role and we train veterinary students and nurses. My passion for teaching encouraged me to train further and I am now an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, awarded through the University of Cambridge. I lecture to fourth year students in radiation safety and small and large animal positioning and teach practical positioning seminars to the 5th and 6th year veterinary students at the University of Cambridge.
