  • Description

Tailored for veterinary surgeons who have a solid foundation in surgery, the course combines concise lectures with practical cadaver-based wet labs. You will refine your surgical technique, improve case selection and planning skills, and gain the confidence to approach more challenging surgical cases in general practice.

Each day focuses on a distinct anatomical region, progressing from oral and upper airway procedures to neck and thoracic surgery. You will actively perform key surgical procedures while exploring more advanced operations, building a complete picture of the principles, techniques and pitfalls of head, neck and thoracic surgery.

    Topics to be covered include:

    • Oral surgery – maxillectomy, mandibulectomy, glossectomy and tonsillectomy
    • Nasal surgery – nasal planectomy and dorsal rhinotomy
    • Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome surgery – rhinoplasty, staphylectomy, folding flap palatoplasty and everted laryngeal saccule resection
    • Ear surgery – lateral wall resection, vertical ear canal ablation, total ear canal ablation and lateral bulla osteotomy, ventral bulla osteotomy and pinnectomy.
    • Neck surgery – exploration of the neck, thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy
    • Tracheal surgery – permanent tracheostomy and temporal tube tracheostomy
    • Thoracic surgery – thoracotomy tube placement, intercostal thoracotomy, median sternotomy, lung lobectomy and pericardiectomy.
