Brachycephalic patients present unique and frequent ophthalmic challenges - from corneal ulceration through to eyelid conformation abnormalities. This practical course combines concise lectures with step-by-step instruction and hands-on wet-lab practice. You'll learn practical techniques applicable in a GP setting, while also covering indications, case selection and surgical planning, and providing an overview of some advanced referral-level procedures to help guide client discussions and decisions.

    Topics to be covered include:

    • Corneal ulcer management - surgical debridement and keratectomy, conjunctival pedicle grafts and corneal cross-linking principles
    • Medial canthoplasty
    • Distichia/ectopic cilia excision
    • Enucleation techniques - transpalpebral vs transconjunctival approaches
    • Cherry eye repair - Morgan pocket technique
    • Ocular dermoid excision
    • Advanced brachycephalic surgeries - discussion of cataract surgery, transpupillary laser, and other referral-level techniques.
