Sam completed an International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) residency at Bristol University in 2009, becoming a European Veterinary Specialist in Internal Medicine and a RCVS Recognised Specialist in Feline Medicine.

Since then she has worked in referral practice seeing canine and feline medicine cases, was editor of BSAVA Companion and continued to work with ISFM where she is currently the Academy of Feline Practitioners Lead and specialist consultant. She was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2019 for outstanding contributions to the profession and works at Linnaeus in their education department.
