Dr. Hugo Schmökel

Boarded speaker Dr. Hugo Schmökel (DECVS) is Chief Veterinary Officer at Evidensia Stronsholm, the largest animal clinic in Sweden. Under his leadership his clinic became a pioneer in antibiotics-free surgery. He performs hundreds of knee surgeries each year.

Hugo graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of the Zurich University in 1989. After his Doctoral thesis he completed a Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Zurich and achieved the European College of Veterinary Surgeons Diploma in 1995. From1994 to 1999 he worked in a private referral clinic and then enrolled on a clinical PhD program at the VetSuisse Faculty in Zurich. During this period, he also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Small Animal Surgery Clinic of the University of Bern, finishing 2004 with his PhD. From 2006 Hugo had been working in private practice in the UK and Switzerland.
