EBVS® European Specialist and RCVS-Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Barney graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2013 and initially worked in 100% small animal practice. Knowing he wanted to become a specialist small animal surgeon, he then completed two rotating internships and a three-year surgical residency before passing his specialist exams in 2021. While Barney is happy to deal with any soft tissue or orthopaedic cases, he has a particular interest in surgical oncology, emergency surgery, and trauma management. His clinical work is divided between Optivet Referrals, an independent referral hospital in Hampshire, and Vetfix, a peripatetic surgery service based on the South Coast.
Over the last few years Barney has also concentrated on exploring his love of teaching and training, including starting his own surgical CPD company in 2022 and completing RVC’s Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education in 2024.
