Description
Hyperthyroid cats, diabetics and Cushingoid patients are common in small animal practice, but endocrinology extends far beyond these diseases. This theory day will focus on some of the more subtle or less commonly diagnosed endocrine disorders.
We’ll explore unusual causes of polyuria and polydipsia, including the rarity of diabetes insipidus and other potential sources of these symptoms. We’ll also delve into incidental adrenal masses: where should you begin when a mass is identified on imaging? Together, we’ll review the literature and piece together a working plan for these masses.
The course will also include updates in feline endocrinology, covering the diagnosis of idiopathic hypercalcaemia despite normal total calcium levels, and investigating underlying endocrinopathies in feline diabetes.
 Topics to be covered include:
- Approach to hypercalcaemia with focus on canine primary hyperparathyroidism
- Azotaemic, hypertensive cat; chronic kidney disease or Conn's syndrome?
- Diabetes insipidus, psychogenic polydipsia or something else?
- Where to start with the incidental adrenal massÂ
- Phaeochromocytomas; hiding from plain sight
- Updates in feline endocrinology - acromegaly and idiopathic hypercalcaemia
