Description
Trauma is a common presentation, particularly in cats, and managing these cases from admission through to discharge calls for a broad skillset, which often includes elements of ECC, soft tissue, and orthopaedic surgery. This highly practical course aims to give tips and tricks to help deal with the most common consequences of blunt trauma seen in our small animal patients - from head to tail.
With plenty of hands-on practical sessions, our two experienced lecturers will take you through the procedures to stabilise, treat and provide aftercare in poly-trauma cases. Short classroom-based sessions will be followed by demonstrations, with the majority of the time spent putting theory into practice.
Topics to be covered include:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Mandibular symphysis/skin avulsion
- Pleural space disease and diaphragmatic rupture
- Hip luxation: closed reduction and FHNE
- Thoracic limb amputation
- Wound management: reconstruction, drains and first aid
- Review common traumatic procedures - enucleation / tail amputation
