Description
This two-day course aims to give you hands-on with less commonly performed abdominal procedures and also give an introduction to thoracic surgery. While lecture sessions will cover indications and post-operative management, the main focus will be based on performing the surgeries themselves.
Highly practical cadaver-based sessions across both days will provide hands-on experience, with discussion of tips and techniques to optimise outcomes.
Topics to be covered include:
- Hepatic surgery: partial and total lobectomy
- Biliary tract surgery: gallbladder mucocoele and extrahepatic biliary tract obstruction
- Approach to septic peritonitis
- Stapled GIT anastomosis
- Approaches to the thorax: intercostal thoracotomy and sternotomy
- Lung lobectomy and Pericardectomy
- Approach to chylothorax & pyothorax
- Oesophageal foreign body surgery
