Practical Abdominal Ultrasound Masterclass

This highly practical one-day masterclass will provide delegates with the confidence to perform diagnostic abdominal ultrasound on a variety of cases in general practice.

With comprehensive online pre-learning videos, delegates will be able to familiarise themselves with the theory they are expected to know ahead of the course. The day will therefore be spent largely in practical sessions to maximise hands-on imaging of the abdomen, learning how to recognise what is normal and classify any abnormalities noted.

Topics to be covered include:

• The ultrasound machine- how to use the machine to its best effect
• Introduction to the basics of abdominal ultrasound
• Useful measurements to take, how to take them and what they mean
• Familiarising yourself with the normal, in order to recognise the abnormal
• Hands-on imaging of the liver, gallbladder, spleen, GI tract and urogenital tract

As we aim to keep group numbers small and the course is solely practical, we would ask delegates to bring along an appropriate dog to scan so that we can scan a broad range of cases and give the dogs plenty of time out as needed.
