Description
This hands-on two-day course is aimed at veterinary surgeons who are comfortable with routine soft tissue procedures and want to progress to more advanced but regularly indicated techniques, including an introduction to thoracic surgery. The focus is on practical decision-making, surgical approach and performing the procedures themselves, supported by discussion of indications and post-operative management.
Through a combination of short lectures and cadaver-based wet-lab sessions across both days, you will gain experience with a wider range of technically demanding procedures, alongside tips and techniques to optimise outcomes. The course is designed to help you extend the range of surgeries you can offer confidently and safely in practice.
Topics to be covered include:
- Approaches to the thorax: intercostal thoracotomy and sternotomy
- Lung lobe torsion and pyothorax
- Lung lobectomy and Pericardectomy
- Vascular ring anomalies
- LWR/TECA-LBO
- Laryngeal tie-back
- Canine scrotal urethrostomy
- Feline perineal urethrostomy
- Anal sacculectomy
